VPS Debian 9.1

We are pleased to announce that the first update of the stable distribution Debian 9 is now available in our system. This point release mainly adds corrections for security issues, along with a few adjustments for serious problems.

The Debian 9 (code name Stretch) itself was release in June 2017 after 26 months of development and will be supported for the next 5 years.

In Stretch, the default MySQL variant is now MariaDB. The replacement of packages for MySQL 5.5 or 5.6 by the MariaDB 10.1 variant will happen automatically upon upgrade.

The other feature of Debian 9 is predictable network interface names which means that in new version the interfaces will not get eth0, eth1,... names which  but ens0 or wlp3s0. The new naming is based on slot number while the old one was given when MAC address first appeared in 70-persistent-net.rules file which has inherent race conditions and requires having to write state into /etc.

Debian 9 includes numerous updated packages among which Linux core 4.9, Apache 2.4.25, OpenJDK 8, Perl 5.24, PHP 7.0, PostgreSQL 9.6 and more than 51,000 other packages.
